#2. Blogging for ELT

blog is one of the easiest ways to publish student writing on the web. nowadays, blogs is getting easy to upload writing, photos, audio and even video. Blog can be used as a great tools for language learners.
There are three types of blogs used in language teaching.
First is blog as the tutor. In this type of blog, the teacher post mainly like syllabus, course information, homework, assignments, etc. Students are normally restricted to being able to write comments to the teacher’s posts.
Second is the class blog. in this type, blog can be a shared space, with teacher and students being able to write to the main area. Students can be encouraged to reflect in more depth, in writing, on themes touched upon in class. It can be an extra-curricular extension of the classroom.
Third one is the learner blog. It require teacher to effort to both set up and moderate. Students will have their own personal online space. students can be encouraged to write frequently about what interests them, and can post comments on other students’ blogs.
The reason why we need to use blog in language learning is that it can provide a real audience for student writing. Students can not only write their own writing easily but also read other’s writing which can be extra reading practice for students. it can be a good way for peer evaluation and sharing places because students are mostly encouraged by peers.
Also, they can practice writing regardless of time and places if they can connect to internet. It also can encourage shy students to participate. there is evidence to suggest that students who are quiet in class can find their voice when given the opportunity to express themselves in a blog.
Teacher can give them feedback to one by one through blogs. It also increase the sense of community in a class especially if learners are sharing information about themselves and their interests.
There are other reasons for using blogs. to guide students to online resources appropriate for their level, as an online portfolio of student written work, to encourage a process=writing approach, to help build a closer relationship between students in large classes.
After reading this article, I realized that bolging is not just for my interests but it can help my teaching for language learners. When I used “classting”, mobile application to communicate with class students, it helped a lot to encourage students and me share informations and our stories. But it is restricted to post homework, short comments, aunouncement. Blog can offer more things than classting for language learning
I learned how to run blogs as a tool for language learning and how can be used for students thorough this article.
